Sleep Apnea

Snoring is a very common problem, so common that it is often the brunt of jokes but also the cause of much marital strife and exhaustion. When a person has a severe form this same process they can actually stop breathing for a period of time as they sleep – a condition called sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is very serious. It can cause or worsen many cardiovascular problems like hearth rhythm issues, high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes. It can also worsen type 2 diabetes and makes driving more dangerous due to lack of restful sleep.

All cases of suspected sleep apnea require a sleep study to diagnose. These are done at a sleep center but most often via a simple take home test. A CPAP machine is the gold standard to treat sleep apnea but for some people who have more mild forms or can’t tolerate a CPAP machine, we can fabricate a special oral appliance that helps to keep the airway open during sleep and reduce or stop sleep apnea.
