How Does Getting a Dental Implant Work?
- Getting dental implants typically takes two visits. The following are the usual steps involved in the process:
- Implants are embedded into your jawbone. The site is allowed to heal for 3-6 months until the implants fuse with the jawbone. While waiting, avoiding pressure on the area and sticking to a soft food diet helps.
- Once the bone integration is complete, you return to the office so your dentist or oral surgeon can place the abutment, or posts, that will serve as anchors for your artificial teeth.
- Your dental team takes an impression of your teeth to ensure your new teeth fit and look good. The last step is fitting and attaching the crown or replacement tooth.
- During your routine dental visits, we check your implants to ensure they're working well.
